In a remarkable series of essays spanning the last forty-five years, the influential Argentinian-Mexican philosopher Enrique Dussel develops a pedagogics of liberation. We need first and foremost, he argues, a thorough and deep critique of those existing pedagogical practices and curriculum — Dussel calls them “educational praxes of domination” — that attempt to assimilate the poor of the global south or of first nations, by schooling them in the dominant westernized culture, its high art, its mainstream ideology, and its ethos of individualism and competition.
